Saaf
Saaf
SAHF (with the 'a' as in 'father' and a soft 'f' sound at the end, similar to the English word 'staff' but with emphasis on the first syllable).
من (ص ف و)الخالص والنقي، أو تمليح لنحو صفاء وصفية ونحوهما. يستخدم للذكور والإناث.
Saaf derives from the Arabic root ص-ف-و (S-F-W), which relates to purity, clarity, and refinement. The name embodies the qualities of something that is completely pure, unmixed, or transparent—both in physical and spiritual senses. It can also allude to related names like Safaa and Safiyyah, which share the same etymological root and convey similar meanings of clarity and purity. The root word is frequently used in Classical Arabic to describe water that is crystal clear, air that is untainted, or character that is morally unblemished.

The name originates from Classical Arabic and is rooted in Semitic linguistic traditions. It is widely used across Arab and Muslim-majority cultures as both a masculine and feminine name, reflecting universal Islamic values of spiritual and moral purity.
In Islamic and Arab culture, purity (taharah) holds profound spiritual significance, making Saaf a meaningful choice for parents seeking to express hopes for their child's moral and spiritual clarity. The concept of safaa (purity/clarity) appears throughout Islamic literature and theology as a desirable spiritual state. Names derived from this root have been appreciated across centuries of Arab, Persian, Turkish, and broader Muslim societies.
Different spellings and forms of Saaf across languages
