Khumaysaan is a diminutive form derived from the Arabic root خ م س (kh-m-s), which relates to the number five (khamsah). The name literally means 'one who is fifth' or 'one who takes a fifth.' In Islamic tradition, the fifth share (khums) refers to one-fifth of war spoils allocated to specific recipients as ordained in the Quran. This name can describe someone who holds the fifth position in importance or who claims or distributes the fifth portion of something.

The name originates from Arabic linguistic tradition, specifically from the root word khamsah (five) with the diminutive suffix -aan/-ān. This follows classical Arabic naming conventions where abstract nouns and numerical concepts are personified through diminutive forms.
In Islamic culture, the concept of khums (the fifth) holds significant religious importance, as it is mentioned in the Quran regarding the division of war spoils and other allocations. Names derived from this concept reflect Islamic legal and economic principles. The diminutive form suggests a more personal, affectionate version of the concept, making it suitable for naming individuals who embody fairness, division, or balanced distribution in their character.
Different spellings and forms of Khumaysaan across languages
While the exact name 'Khumaysaan' does not appear directly in the Quran, it is derived from the root word 'khums' (خُمُس), which appears in the Quranic context of distributing one-fifth of war spoils (ghanimah). The Quran references this division in Surah Al-Anfal (8:41) and Surah Al-Hashr (59:7), establishing the religious and legal significance of the fifth portion in Islamic jurisprudence. The diminutive form Khumaysaan extends this concept to personal nomenclature.
وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا غَنِمْتُم مِّن شَيْءٍ فَأَنَّ لِلَّهِ خُمُسَهُ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَلِذِي الْقُرْبَىٰ وَالْيَتَامَىٰ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ
