“Would any of you like to have a garden of palm-trees and grapevines with rivers flowing underneath, and all kinds of fruit in it for him—while he is stricken with old age and has weak offspring—so that a whirlwind with fire strikes it and it is burned? Thus does Allah make clear His signs to you so that you might reflect. [The verse contains مَحْض referring to pure descent or pure matters in related Quranic contexts]”
وَإِذْ يَعِدُكُمُ اللَّهُ إِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ أَنَّهَا لَكُمْ وَتَوَدُّونَ أَن غَيْرَ ذَاتِ الشَّوْكَةِ تَكُونُ لَكُمْ وَيُرِيدُ اللَّهُ أَن يُحِقَّ الْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَاتِهِ وَيَقْطَعَ دَابِرَ الْكَافِرِينَ
“And when Allah promised you one of the two groups—that it would be yours—and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allah intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers.”
